The LaFollette Room is named after Dr. & Mrs. Robert G. Lafollette, the second owners of the estate following the Lewis family. The LaFollette family purchased the home from the Hartley family in 1984. Here they raised their family and “felt blessed to be caretakers of this historic property.” Mr. Lafollette was a veterinarian in Winterset for two years before starting a career with the USDA as a federal meat inspector. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed making canoes by hand. Mrs. LaFollette was a science teacher for the Winterset School district. She loved horses and was an avid gardener. They both had a great love for the land and this property that they called home for over 30 years .
